In the few months of Free WordPress Themes being online, we’ve received a few complaints from members and non-members alike. The gist: someone has uploaded their themes, but without proper attribution. Worse, these uploaded themes had sponsor links embedded somewhere (usually the footer). This means some people are making money off other people’s efforts, sometimes [...]
For the past couple of days, I’ve been combating spam links on some of the blogs I manage. And these aren’t your run-of-the-mill comment and trackback links. These links had been inserted right on the theme files themselves. Some were even inserted in admin files. Some on the blog posts!
This made me think and rethink [...]

Sorry for the lull in posting here, folks. I’ve had a family emergency and tragedy so I took some time off of work. Now we’re trying to pick up the pieces of our lives, and of course with this, I’m trying to reroute my energies back into my blogging and design-related writings.
Here’s a great piece [...]
Back in the old days of blogging, my first ever blog (then hosted on Blogger) didn’t even have categories. Posts were just posts, and there was no way of organizing the content, aside from chronological order (by month, by year). When I started out problogging, the first ever network I joined was Blog Media, which is now Problogging, Inc. The first blog I wrote for was under the Erati sub-network, of which tech.erati was part of. It has since been re-branded as Gadzooki (more interesting tidbits about this later). One thing that the network did [...]
I’ve been blogging for about four years now. Before working mainly with WordPress, I’ve tried Blogger, BlogCMS (a variant of Nucleus), and I’ve dabbled with Movable Type and even Textpattern. But then I tried WordPress and I got hooked. One of the reasons I stick to WordPress is that there are a ton of themes [...]
First it was sponsored themes that the WordPress guys were warning everyone about. And with regard to that, we took a stand–somewhere near the middle, by choosing to say that sponsored themes are all right, but to the extent that they are done right.
Now the worry by some camps is the proliferation of WordPress themes [...]
Last month, the big issue being discussed by the WordPress community and the blogosphere at large was that of sponsored themes. The concept of sponsored themes is not entirely new.–it has been used by designers to monetize their creations for some time now. The basic idea is this:
The theme will include at least one link [...]
